My favorite Black artist at the moment (it shifts from time to time) is Kara Walker. The content of her work and style are amazing. She's mostly known for her paper silhouette cutouts, but she does wonderful drawings, paintings, and text pieces. I also lover her openness (if you've read any interview with her you know what I'm talking about), she's not afraid to bare her soul for the sake of her art. And she's definitely an example of thinking outside the box.
About Me:
I'm a painter and illustrator, the focus of my work is women of African descent. Most people know me for my very bold and bright acrylic pieces, which take on many themes, from Strawberry Shortcake to the Orixas and Black women as superheroes. Lately I've been doing a lot of smaller watercolor work, and I'm in the process of creating an illustrated epic fairytale.
